Today is June 13, 2017 which can be written as 7-13-17. Disregarding punctuation, that number sequence is the same forwards and backwards making it a palindrome (a word or phrase or number sequence that is the same forwards and backwards). This week is known as a Palindrome Week because every day from June 10 to June 19 follows the same example above. It’s a trivial thing, but fun.
We bring this up only because we certified some homes this week (81 to be precise) and we wrote the palindromic date as many times. One in particular really fit the bill… on 7-10-17 we certified home number 03530 for Great Southern Homes. So satisfying. On 7-13-17, we certified home 3553 for Essex Homes… that one works if you drop the placeholding “0” at the front, so we’ll count it.
It has also been a while since we updated our CHiP Homes Map, so we went ahead and did that today as well… Check out the updated map here before we certify more and it’s out of date (3557 total homes!).
Some other interesting palindromes we’ve seen this week:
Names: Mom, Dad, Bob, Hannah, ABBA, Taco Cat
One and two word: racecar, radar, kayak, a Toyota, wow and saippuakivikauppias (Finnish – meaning soapstone vendor. It’s the biggest palendrome word in any language.)
No, it is open on one position.
Eva, can I stab bats in a cave?
able was I ere I saw elba
A man, a plan, a canal: Panama
(and if that’s not enough) A man, a plan, a canoe, pasta, heros, rajahs, a coloratura, maps, snipe, percale, macaroni, a gag, a banana bag, a tan, a tag, a banana bag again (or a camel), a crepe, pins, Spam, a rut, a Rolo, cash, a jar, sore hats, a peon, a canal – Panama
Happy Palindrome Week! See you next August.
